bigsleep1This year´s Big Sleep in Amersham on Saturday 23rd September was a great success and gave to more than 40 people the experience of sleeping rough on the streets in a controlled and safe environment.

Street Kids Direct organises the event every 2-3 years and invites children, young people, adults and families to jon the charity´s trsutees and volunteers in one unforgettable night out.  The fundraising event raises around £600 and gives people the opportunity to feel what it would be like to be homeless.  Many sleepers comment in the morning at how cold it becomes overnight and how sleeping on concrete and limited access to food, water and showers can impact your life in a negative way.

The charity was able to share with supporters how it impacted the lives of hundreds of children over the past 25 years and presented a moving video that graphically portrayed the statistics of children living alone on the streets of Guatemala City and how the demographic has changed over the years.  Duncan Dyason, Street Kids Direct´s Founder and Director, explained how the charity plans to focus on children at high-risk of living on the streets as well as supporting government efforts in Guatemala to provide a safe framework to support children at risk.

Many thanks to St.Michael´s Church for the use of their premesis and Forecourt, Clarks of Amersham for donations of carboard boxes, Gregs of Amersham for donations of cakes and pasties, Easts of Amersham for their donation of boarding and to the many volunteers and supporters who helped with refreshments, security, registration and all the sound and tech part of the evening.
