ABOUT STREET KIDS DIRECT

WHO WE ARE

We are a partner-based charity with a mission to rescue street-living children and prevent at-risk children from living on the streets worldwide.

We have been working in Guatemala City and with street-living children since 2001, and during this time we have worked hard in partnership with other organisations to get the number of street children from an estimated 5,000 (quoted on the BBC documentary) to 0.

There are many reasons why children end up street-connected or living on the streets, and each usually has a different reason for choosing to do so. However, we believe that no child should have to accept the reality of living on the streets with no alternative.

VISION & MISSION

Vision

To see no more street-living children worldwide.

Mission

To reach street-living children worldwide, “until the last child.”

To prevent more children from taking the steps towards street life

At the heart of all we do in Street Kids Direct is our Christian Faith.

Our faith in Jesus motivates our actions and enables us to trust that what we do will bring about positive changes in individuals’ lives.

We believe that as Christians, we should endeavour to treat every individual as Jesus did – with love and respect.

Our faith means we believe that our strength in Jesus enables us to go the extra mile, to suffer alongside the most vulnerable, and to be a source of dependable love in times of need.

OUR HISTORY

Street Kids Direct has been working with street-living and at-risk children since 2001.  Our founder, Duncan Dyason, has been working with street children in Guatemala City since 1992, when he moved there after watching a harrowing TV documentary and founded The TOYBOX Charity.

We continue to work with our partners to reach the most vulnerable children and young people on the streets or at very high-risk of street life.  The charity has developed a unique mentoring programme that targets the most at-risk children and provides them with a caring, consistent adult mentor to help them make positive life choices, avoid considering life on the streets, and enjoy life in all its fullness.

Take a look below to see some of our highlights from the last 20 years.

THEY SHOOT CHILDREN, DON´T THEY?

This is the original BBC Everyman documentary that Duncan saw in 1991, which gave birth to his call to move to Guatemala City in 1992 and work with the children.

Thanks to Judy Jackson and her team at Everyman for highlighting the plight of the street-living children in Guatemala City.

His story and the early years of the work are featured in his book Miracle Children, first published in 1998 and now in its second edition.
